I'm inspired by conversations at last week's Orycon to begin posting again. And encouraged by minnihaha K. to propagate this meme:

Yes, I like it quite a lot.

While there were certainly drawbacks to it - your parents get to make all their biggest mistakes on you first, and in my case I was asked to take on probably more responsibility than was wise - the advantages have far outweighed the disadvantages.

For one thing, even though I am in reality Quite Short (just shy of 5' 0") in my head I am the tallest, biggest person in the group.

Before your recent move, had you always lived in the Chicago area?

Mostly. From birth until the third year of college, when I moved to Champaign-Urbana IL. Two years later Mike and I both moved to Rochester NY where Mike had a pretty good job offer. In 1985 we moved again, to the western suburbs of Chicago where I had a job at Fermilab.

Then it was back to Chicago proper in 1990, once we'd established that the bookstore was likely to survive.

So it only SEEMS like I've always lived in Chicago.
