And the move goes on, and on

alicebentleyOur cross country move from Chicago to the Seattle area proceeds with a pace that is both dizzyingly rapid and mind-numbingly slow.
Every day is a combination of Pack Boxes, Make Phone Calls, take a break and read email, Pack More Boxes. Yesterday's adventures included buying a used cargo van, and today's will include driving all the way back up to the Wisconsin border to pick it up (there was one small repair to finish before they could release it).
We've determined that there are five (5!) computer monitors that we won't be taking with us, although we probably will bring along the CPUs. There's also a few printers and scanners that won't be making the trip.
After some consideration, I'm bringing pretty much ALL of the books we've amassed over the decades. The majority are non-fiction (surprise!), and even a lot of the fiction are books I would like to read again. There are two bookstore on Vashon, the one I've been in already was excellent - but I wouldn't want to have to replace anything from there, I'd rather buy a NEW book.
We're using uniform boxes to pack everything in. They're 13" x 10" x 8", and I had almost 1000 of them left when I shut down the shop. Just having so many boxes easily at hand has been the single best part about this move.
Moving Day itself is Sunday, August 1st, because that's when the brawny fellows I'm hiring are available. The containers that will be carrying most of the stuff arrives on Friday, and will get picked up on Monday. Then on Tuesday the Really Big Truck arrives to carry away things too large for containers - most of the bookshelves and my mother-in-law's Baby Grand Piano.
And then we hop into our new van, and drive off!
