Despite general wisdom, we drove off this morning to get the kid to the airport for his 2:45 pm flight.

The drive was tense. The roads are passable, barely, if you have four wheel drive and snowtires or, like us, chains. HIlls were a serious challenge, and we could see it getting worse as the day progressed.

Having made it home in one piece, I'm not going out again until the roads are clear - but having almost nothing besides schoolwork required right now, that's not a big issue.

If I was working a regular job somewhere off-island, I'm sure I'd work out some way that didn't involve getting our little car out of the driveway again.

Yep! It was delayed by several hours as it arrived late, then they de-iced the plane for a while, but he's just now landed - and my sister will be picking him up. (He was most relieved to not have to negotiate the train and bus by himself.)

He has flown by himself once before, and with us several times, so it's not strange to him. And he looks closer to 21 than his actual 15, so people just assume he knows what he's doing.

Glad to hear it. Children and grandchildren of friends, at last report, were stuck in the airport in Hawaii, sitting with their luggage, hoping to be able to fly home to Seattle...

I would prefer to be stuck at the airport in Hawaii not able to get home Rather than be stuck here not able to get to there!
