It's been raining steadily all day, with the wind picking up towards sunset.

And five minutes ago, the power went out. Sure does get dark here.

CNN is showing some rather frightening images from Washington and Oregon. Are you and your family alright? Kaja and hers?

We are just fine. Our house is on high ground, and doesn't have a basement. We had just last month cleaned the roof and gutters, so the unusually large amounts of water are still not going anywhere they shouldn't.

Kaja et al were not quite so carefree. Despite keeping a close eye on the drains, one of them plugged up and a quantity of water made it into the basement packing room. Luckily, she found the problem soon after it occurred, the drain was unclogged, and the tedious, nasty job of stripping out the soggy carpet could commence.

Today has been the far more typical alternation of light rain and bits of sun.

I seem to recall you folks making noises about a generator after last winter's power fiasco...any progress on that point?

We obtained a home improvement loan to handle the expenses. But other than plugging in one of the UPS units and replacing the original toilets with ManicFLUSH[tm] PrejudiceExtreme units, Nuh uh. We have plans for at least one, possibly two, high efficiency wood burning stoves, plans for an LP tank/power generator, and desires for an LP tankless water heater. There are remote desires for a LP-based stove (the current one is electric). We also want to pry up the carpet in half the family room and put down a tile floor so that we can have a warm place to be messy. We have been accessorizing, paying for non-home improvement things, instead of spending more money from the loan account. I think one problem might be the incredible dearth of local businesses that can smell a sale a league away. People here don't seem to be very persistent.

Ahh..just wondering...I was at a Farm aution the other day and a 5KW Honda generator sold for about $375...and the thought came to me, wonder if Bentley picked up one of those...
