Every now and then I run into something that makes me sad, but I'm glad I saw it.

I've played Animal Crossing quite a bit, so all the references are familiar to me. But I get the impression that the story comes through just fine without that.

For me the good parts of something like that - connecting with each other, remembrance - more than make up for the melancholy. The end result is not sad at all.

I'm similarly enjoying re-watching an anime I really like: Fruits Basket. It has a bunch of sad spots, but overall is decidedly cheerful. I also really like the manga it's based on.
