My son and I have been listening to (endless repetitions of) Linkin Park, mostly from Minutes to Midnight. He asks what other music is similar to them, and I'm far too ignorant to help.

So - what should I point him to?

Try plugging Linkin Park into Pandora (www.pandora.com) and see what it comes up with.

I know nothing about Linkin Park, but looking up Minutes to Midnight on iTunes and looking at the "Listeners Also Bought" sidebar shows:

It Won't Be Soon Before Long - Maroon 5
Lies For The Liars - The Used
Shock Value - Timbaland (who I believe is more rap)

YMMV, at least with iTunes you can hear a preview and get an idea if there's anything you like here.
