A Question for the more politically connected

I just got an email to one of my work addresses from the WTP4WTP.org group, welcoming me to their organization "of 1.3 million and growing!".

I've never heard of them before, although it must be admitted that I don't really pay much attention to that sort of thing. But this email is for certain the first contact I've ever had with them, and for them to create a Membership for me, and then tell me about it, makes me think that their claims of both size and of being a collective representing their members are both bogus.

My question is: ever heard of them? Are they evil, or just very bad at writing first contact emails?

Almost three years later

Enough people are unhappy over at LiveJournal, and there's sufficient disconnect on FaceBook, that I'll try making the occasional post over here, as well as trying to connect with my real-world friends here.
