This Thanksgiving holiday has really underscored the radical changes in my life.

From living in a dense, urban area of the city I grew up in (North side Chicago), in a third floor apartment to living on 2.7 acres of woodland on a rural island in Puget Sound.

From working typically 60 to 80 hour weeks and being responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars, truckloads of stuff and multiple employees (and doing reasonably well at it) to being in charge of one household's move-in, housekeeping, cooking and budget (and not doing as well as I expected).

Biggest change of all? In Chicago I have more than a dozen relatives that I like quite a lot and spent much time with, almost a hundred friends that I would get together with now and again, and literally thousands of casual acquaintances I regularly encountered.

Here on the Forest Moon of Seattle, I've met my neighbors, briefly, but haven't learned everyone's name yet. And the commuting situation means that very few people are home much. I've hade some headway at connecting up with the vigorous local fandom, but travel constraints make personal meetings, um, challenging. I spend WAY more time on-line than I ever used to, yet seem to have less to say than before.

The quiet peacefulness of this place is one of its greatest assets, and I appreciate it. But it's still taking some getting used to.
